4th Ward Heroes at it again

Malissa Sole and her company, 4th Ward Heroes, are at it again. Known for its events as much as its artist development, booking and promotions, 4th Ward Heroes has recently turned out some amazing events featuring live music. From The Judies to Judi Chicago, Sole’s efforts are certainly appreciated around A-Town. And, she’s at it again!

This Friday, April 23 beginning at 8 p.m., 4th Ward Heroes and Whynatte present Atlanta’s own Mike LaSage and the Stumbling Troubadours. Since 2008, the self-described “drunken romantics and wayward wanderers” have been working the music industry the old-fashioned way. Yet unsigned (but, trust us, it shouldn’t be long now given the talent), the trio have no problem leaving a wake of rabid fans in their wake. Frontman Mike LaSage (also on guitar, piano and organ and formerly of the band Beautiful Mess) came out of a short-lived retirement to partner with long-time friends Keith Laguna (mandolin, guitar, vocals) and Patrick Cochran (drums, vocals, whistling) on the Mike LaSage and the Stumbling Troubadours project.

Rowdy, hilarious and true musical renaissance men, the band defies description.  But, the boys have taken a stab at it on their Myspace page. “A little bit country AND a little bit rock n’ roll. Throw in some alcohol, bluegrass, gospel, folk, punk, and garnish it all with solid pop sensibilities.” That about sums it up, Threaders. Tracks like Jesus Went Down to New Orleans has a real Bluegrass twang reminiscent of Southern revivals but the lyrics are insightful and full of ridiculously humorous references to the sights and residents of the infamous French Quarter.  Southern Towne Song is an entertaining blend of that same twang with a little bit of punk thrown in for good measure. Not only is the music catchy, LaSage’s voice is mesmerizing. Just be warned, as the band says,”The agnostic revival is on its way to your town. Make sure you’re front and center.”

Nashville bands Jonny Corndawg and Jacob Jones will join Mike LaSage and the Stumbling Troubadours this Friday at East Atlanta’s 529 for what is sure to be a satiated, raucous good time. MDT Hint: The event is 21 and up.
