Here at MDT, we can’t think of anything better than spending a lazy Sunday afternoon outdoors with friends. This Sunday, we’re heading to Alpharetta to watch our friend, and Slice Downtown owner, Pablo Henderson play the sport of kings. It’s polo season, Threaders!
The Chukkar Farm and Polo Club 2010 season kicks off this Sunday, May 2 from 1-5 p.m., and we can’t wait to cheer on Henderson and his team. Chukkar Farm is home to the Scuppernong Polo Club, and matches are social, festive and just plain fun. MDT Hint: You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful locale either. Chukkar Farm is situated on 130 acres of rolling Georgia countryside – and it’s only a short drive from downtown.
Never seen polo live before or just need a crash course on the sport? People the world over have been playing polo for more than 2,000 years. It’s widely considered to be the oldest team sport, the fastest ball sport and the most dangerous sport in the world … talk about an exciting Sunday afternoon relaxing in the summer sun!
As if the location and fun wasn’t enough, the opening party features some of Atlanta’s hottest DJs (this time it’s Mike Katz from Halo Lounge), cool liquid refreshments, BBQ from Boners BBQ and more polo than you can shake a stick at! And, don’t forget to take part in the long-standing tradition of stomping the divets at half time.
The event is free but a limited amount of VIP tickets, which grant you exclusive access to the Player’s Lounge hosted by Select 55 and Vitamin Water, are available for only $20 through Want Tickets. Parking is $10 but included with the purchase of VIP tickets.
Bring a blanket, bring some chairs, you can even bring some wine and a picnic if you like. Just be prepared, you’ll be hooked on polo from the minute the starting horn blows!
